Section 7.1 Objectives

After completing this module, students will be able to:

Describe the connection between poverty and health outcomes.
Explain why a free health clinic might be interested in considering social determinants of health to create measures of medical need in the community they serve.
Calculate the number of possibilities for mobile clinic placements using the concepts of permutations, combinations, and other rules for counting.
Understand how parametric linear models can be used to combine relevant variables and model medical need.
Understand how discrete optimization can be used to place mobile clinic(s) in a way that maximizes the need covered.
Explain, justify and think critically about the assumptions underpinning mathematical models.
