Section 1.3 Cui Bono - Who Benefits?

The first modern anti-abortion group, the National Right to Life Committee, was formed in 1967 at the United States Catholic Conference. Since their formation, many more anti-abortion/pro-life groups have formed and their political influence is noticeable. According to OpenSecrets, from January 2022 to June 30 2022, anti-abortion/pro life organizations spent at least $690,000 in lobbying with 20 of their biggest recipients being republican members of congress or republican candidates running for office [1.12.6]. By allowing the government to weigh into medical decisions that should be made between a patient and medical professional, the American Medical Association recognizes this creates inequity in health care and can cause severe adverse health effects for patients.[1.12.7]
