How might we acknowledge the fact that it’s okay to not be okay?

Any disorder mental or physical is as serious as the next. Sometimes we take each other for granted and are unable to realize what others might be going through. Anxiety is a mental disorder that comes in all shapes and sizes. It is our job to look out for others but most importantly ourselves. It is our job to realize something may not be quite right and it is time to take action. Realizing it’s okay to not be okay is one of the first steps in the healing process.

My goal for my senior capstone project was to design a way that encourages others who struggle with anxiety to seek help. I designed a mobile with nine of the major symptoms hanging from top to bottom. In the center of it all, a small life preserver or as many of you may know it as a phone. The mobile represents a timeline of one's life and how one may choose to take action. The mobile itself is very minimal, yet complex at the same time. Each symptom is connected at the top leading to the idea that these symptoms go hand in hand with each other. The phone line hanging in the center of the mobile not only draws your eye downward but also represents that help is always there. Help is possible at anytime, from the very beginning to the very end. I hope this allows individuals to dig deep and find the courage to seek help.
