A History Lesson - What Came Before Nintendo New York?

As Nintendo's Pokemon franchise was blowing up across the world at the turn of the century, this building was originally planned and first opened as the "Pokemon Center", a Nintendo building that specialized in its Pokemon franchise with merchandising, special Pokemon-related events such as tournaments, a "PokeStore", and more.

After closing down in January of 2005 for renovations, the building re-opened in May of 2005, and the Pokemon Center was converted into the Nintendo NYC building, which would feature merchandise and game displays of all of the characters from Nintendo’s brand, such as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Kirby, and other Nintendo characters. The store also houses a mini Nintendo Museum on the second floor.
